Human Givens
Human Givens Intervention - Structured intervention package to support children's emotional health and well-being.
This intervention is designed to work on children's emotional well-being in a structured way by addressing their underlying emotional needs. The intervention is conducted with groups of children and a familiar member of staff over 18 weeks to ensure opportunities to communicate with peers in the welsh language.
The intervention is designed to address the 9 emotional and physical needs outlined in the Human Givens framework,
- Security — safe territory and an environment which allows us to develop fully
- Attention (to give and receive it) — a form of nutrition
- Sense of autonomy and control — having volition to make responsible choices
- Emotional intimacy — to know that at least one other person accepts us totally for who we are, “warts 'n' all”
- Feeling part of a wider community
- Privacy — opportunity to reflect and consolidate experience
- Sense of status within social groupings
- Sense of competence and achievement
- Meaning and purpose — which come from being stretched in what we do and think.
