Hanes Byr o'r Ysgol A Brief History of the School
Agorwyd yr ysgol bresennol ym 1970 wedi sefydlu'r dosbarth cyfrwng Cymraeg cyntaf yma ym 1962. Symudodd y dosbarth i fyny i Senghennydd i sefydlu Ysgol Gymraeg gyntaf yr ardal yn Ysgol Ifor Bach. Wrth i'r galw am addysg ddwyieithog barhau i dyfu sefydlwyd Uned Gymraeg yn Ysgol Fabanod Coed y Brain yn Llanbradach ym 1977 ar gyfer plant Llanbradach, Bedwas, Trethomas a Machen gyda'r plant yn trosglwyddo yma yn saith oed. Ym 1995 agorwyd Ysgol y Castell ar gyfer y plant yr ardaloedd hynny. Cyn agor yr ysgol newydd roedd bron 400 o blant yn ein safle yn Stryd Parcyfelin ac er cwtogi'n sylweddol ar y dalgylch nid yw'r rhifau wedi disgyn i llai na 300. Agorwyd dosbarth arall ym Medi 2001 i ddarparu ar gyfer y cynnydd sy'n parhau.
The present school was open in 1970 following the establishment of a Welsh medium class here in 1962. The class then moved up to Senghennydd to establish the area's first Welsh medium school in Ysgol Ifor Bach. As the demand for Welsh medium education continued to grow a Welsh Unit was set up in Coed y Brain school in Llanbradach in 1977 for the children of Llanbradach, Bedwas, Trethomas and Machen. In 1995 Ysgol y Castell was opened for children from those areas. Before this new school was opened there were nearly 400 children at the Parcyfelin St site and in spite of the catchment area being drastically reduced, the numbers have never fallen below 300. Another class was established in September 2001 to cater for continued expansion.
